First of all, what is Android? It’s a mobile phone operating system developed by Android Inc. and Google. The Android system is extremely flexible, allowing anyone to create Apps, an abbreviation of applications. So what is an App? An App is a small programme that has a certain function, such as a calculator, a media player, a navigation system, a news service, a notepad, simple games etc. You can thus programme your Android to your specific needs and wishes. Some Apps come ready installed and others can be downloaded from the Android Market, which has been re-branded to the Google Play Store. The enormous number of Android Apps available is one of the major attractions of Android mobile phones. Many Apps are free or available at very low cost. The Google Play Store is also a breeding ground for the creation of new software as it allows software developers considerable freedom, although new Apps are obviously reviewed before including them in the store. So as an Android user, you have a wealth of information and programmes at your fingertips, to make your life easier and even more fun.
